Halloween Art/Party

Hello Parents!  Halloween is vastly approaching and Mrs. King has asked that I sent out a note requesting paper rolls be brought to school for a project she is working on.  Toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, or wrapping paper rolls, etc.  She is wanting to get the kids to help make some decorations for the schools Fall Festival coming up.

QUICK REMINDERS::

Halloween Party: OCTOBER 31st.  IF you would like to come it will be at 2:00

Schools Fall Festival: OCTOBER 28th at 6:30pm

Each classroom will have their own theme during the festival.  Ours is a Castle/Mythical Creature haunted house theme.  This is very fun because we just started a unit on mythology so the students are very excited to tie in what they are learning into what they are decorating.

Haydens Writing Journal

Hello Parents!  This week Hayden was selected to be featured on the blog.  His journal was about his favorite book to read to his baby sister.  He chose to write about "The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid Of Anything".  He did amazingly well and I am super proud of him.  

"My sister is 3 years old.  She loves when I read to her and she is starting to learn how to read along with me.  Her favorite book that we read together is "The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid Of Anything".  I think that it is her favorite because we do all the fun voices together.  

The book is about a lady walking through the woods when suddenly all these things start to follow her.  She decides to tell them that she is not scared of them. They keep following her.  She makes it home and goes to bed and when she wakes up she decides to make them into a scarecrow.  

This is a superb book to read to young kids.  It shows them that sometimes you need to concur your fears and just think about how to turn something scary into something useful."

Hayden did a brilliant job on his first journal!  I cannot wait to see where his writing will take us by the end of the year.

Writing Journals

Hello Parents!  This week we are beginning our writing journals.  Our first assignment is to talk about our most favorite things.  As a challenge, I have asked your children to exclude the word "very" from their writings.  I have included a list of words they could use instead.  With this exercise I am hoping they find other words they can use instead of the word "very" and that they expand their vocabulary to become more successful writers.  Every week one students journal will be selected to be featured on the blog, so be sure to stay tuned in so that you can see when your child is up.  Every child will get a turn to showcase their writing skills on the blog.  I encourage you all to look over this list and perhaps see where you could cut out the word "very" from your vocabulary this week as well.  Help encourage these students to learn new words and new ways to say things!

Art Show

Hello Parents!  Mrs. King the art teacher has asked that we remind you all that the elementary art show is coming up.  Your children have been working very hard on learning new techniques and are very excited for you all to see what they have learned.  We have some very talented students amongst our midst.  Above is a fun 3D picture done by one of our students Lyla Smith.  

The students have been learning about watercolors, acrylic, oil paints, oil pastels, how to shade with different pencils.  They have been working hard.  Next week they are even going to begin to dabble in creating pottery.  So on Tuesday and Thursday it may be a good idea to send them in clothing that you wouldn't mind getting a little messy.

Picture Day: September 3rd.

Hello Parents!  

Just wanted to post a quick reminder that picture day is NEXT TUESDAY.  If for some reason your child misses these pictures or they don't turn out as well as you would like, don't fret.  Picture retakes will be OCTOBER 5th.

Holes: Our first Book Activity

     Hey Parents!  You may notice that this week your children could be coming home and spelling their name forward and backwards.  That is because we are talking about Holes by Louis Sachar.  Holes is about a young boy names Stanley Yelnats (notice that his last name is his first name spelled backwards) who finds himself in some deep trouble.  He goes to a camp for troubled children and has to dig these holes as a form of rehabilitation.
     This week I have provided your children with a copy of the book and we are then going to finish the week by watching the movie starring Shai Labouf.  We are then going to compare the book and the movie.  What was left out of the movie?  Was it information that would have been better if they put it in the movie?  Which did you like better and why?  As well as the above mentioned questions on the picture.
     I am hoping that this activity will show your children that just because a book is made into a movie, doesn't mean that you should not read the book.  There are still differences between the two.

Welcome!

      Hello!  Welcome to our classroom blog! My name is Jennifer Poole.  I am your child's teacher this year.  I am so excited to get to know each and every one of you and your children throughout this year.  I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself.  I graduated from Doane University in 2022 with a Bachelors in Elementary Education.  Above is a picture of me and my fiancé, Brent. Together we have three beautiful children.  Hayden, Braxton, and Rory Claire. 

      I grew up in a suburban town right outside of Little Rock, Arkansas.  I moved to Nebraska in July of 2014.  I graduated high school in 2006 and have taken my time in becoming a teacher.  A few life experiences along the way have lead to a better appreciation of education.  My hobbies include reading, painting, watching Netflix with my family, going to museums, and playing with my dog.  

     I am the youngest sibling. My parents are still married and living happily with their boxer dog, Jake. My favorite food is any kind of pasta.  My favorite drink is Diet Dr. Pepper.  I love the Nebraska Cornhuskers. I could watch those rolled ice cream videos for hours.  One thing I am really looking forward to doing with your children this year is our book projects.  I have a huge love for reading and I am hoping that they will, too!  

   As a teacher, my main goal is not only to educate your children and to teach them the required curriculum, but to show them that learning can be fun.  Being an elementary school teacher I have spent my time creating a way to balance out learning with having a good time. I believe that if children can have fun, they will inadvertently learn more.  We will be going over a lot of things this year in our classroom.  I will need them to stay focused and on task, therefore having built in time to have fun creates a schedule that has a little more fluid in it than that of one that doesn't.
   I believe in a more flexible manner of instruction.  Children are very smart and at some point their independence kicks in.  These students will be involved in their learning process every step of the way.  I will be there to maintain order and make sure they stay on task. However, they will be there to help one another learn.  They are going to learn to lean on one another and gain confidence in themselves to do the work.
